5 year olds smoking cigarettes

Sage is my 6 year old daughter.  My wife and I have spent the last 7 years, since we found out she was pregnant, either laughing or crying over this child.  There is no in between with her.  She is a silly child and has added much drama to our life.  This blog comes at the recommendation of friends and family that have stated we need to write down the Sage stories that have become part of the fabric of our life.  This blog will serve as a repository of the past/present/future stories that will provide laughter and wonder for years to come.

Here is the first story that continues to provide laughter in our house.

Last year Sage attended a small christian montessori school for her kindergarden year.  Her teacher was a very stoic yet loving person named Mrs. Stevens.  As a teacher, she ruled the roost and ensured all the children were obedient, tidy and respectful.

Upon picking Sage up from school one day, Tania asked Sage what she had done at school that day.  After naming a few montessori works, Tania asked "what else did you do."  Without skipping a beat and in all seriousness, Sage said "we smoked cigarettes".  (Bear in mind, that no one in Sages family smokes cigarettes and she has probably only seen people smoking them outside of stores and other buildings.  )  Tania struggled to maintain her composure and asked the follow-up question, "who gave you the cigarettes?"  Without hesitation, Sage said "Mrs. Stevens."   As Sage was recounting the tale, it was as if it truly happened.  She and her classmates lined up in a row on the playground smoking cigarettes.   This is just one of countless stories regarding her imagination and dramatic flare.
